We are working with a design & innovation agency in London as they look for a Mechanical Engineer to become fully immersed in projects for some pretty big names across the consumer, medical, industrial and service spaces.
You will compliment and collaborate with the Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Factors, Electronics & Software teams in helping them develop physical product, ultimately getting them to market.
You will know these guys. This is one of the biggest product design agencies in London (about 70+) and they have a little corresponding office in Hong Kong.
They are well respected with good intentions. The products tend to have purpose, and you are not worked to the bone.
Our relationship with them has formed over the last 20 years. A good core of the directors were placed by us so we know the business and what makes them tick.
We have put in two hires over the last few months, one of which was fully onboarded remotely. They are an outgoing bunch and will make that part of the process pretty seamless if needed.
Although they are going to want you in the studio for this position.
Other job descriptions will dazzle you with bullet points. I am just going to leave you with what is essential. Stuff you should already have in your back pocket.
If not, this one is probably not for you.
- Solidworks. This should be second nature to you.
- Getting plastic injection moulded product to market. Medical or consumer. Need to know your entire involvement of that.
- 3+ years commercial experience - this is a pretty fluid brief
- 1st or 2:1 in Mechanical Engineering… ideally at a lucrative university as well as most of the staff here are from the likes of Imperial or Cambridge.
I am not overly fussed on whether you have come from an in-house environment or agency. Consultancy would be the preferred (naturally) but I think it comes down to how involved you were in that process.
Sadly industries like Automotive, Aviation and Oil & Gas in the traditional sense is not going to be right.
You need to be coming from consumer product, consumer electronics, medical devices, diagnostics. Something super clever in that consumer mould.
We are currently trialling video interviewing so at some point you might have the pleasure of being set 5 screening questions by me. I will also give you the opportunity to walk through a part of your experience.
This will then follow up with either a zoom meeting with your direct report, followed by a meeting in the studio.
Whilst remote working has been a success, it has not replaced the buzz and pace of the studio so therefore this position will be in the studio in London.
If a remote hybrid model is an option, you will still have to live locally or within a realistic commutable distance.
All relevant COVID safety measures are in place.
