This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing airport fuel operating company at Heathrow. This client is a joint venture company owned by several large oil operators responsible for leasing, managing, maintaining and operating Heathrow Airport's two aviation fuel tank farms and three aviation fuel hydrant systems.

Role Overview

Our client has approximately 7,000 items of plant listed in its maintenance system (mostly rotating machinery, valves and pipework but also electrical items), each with designated maintenance frequencies (typically daily, weekly, monthly, six-monthly or annually). Maintenance planning and execution is further broken down into routine maintenance and major maintenance programmes that require engineering insight and competencies.

Major complex maintenance activities need to be planned, scheduled and action items followed up on so that the company does not fall behind in its preventative maintenance plan of critical equipment. The candidate needs to be able to effectively communicate and seek input from all levels of the organisation to help achieve the desired results.


*Show visible commitment to health, safety, security and the environment (HSSE) and comply with all relevant HSSE legislation and guidance with the aim of there being no HSSE incidents or accidents.

*To lead mechanical repairs and repairs to the plant and the installation of new equipment.

*Support the safe and smooth uninterrupted operation of the tank farms & hydrant (pipework) system.

*Support the maintenance team with technical guidance to effectively to deliver the maintenance tasks of the company.

*Execute Planned Preventative Maintenance system. (Weekly, Monthly, Six monthly and Annual inspection

*Technical knowledge, specification of new and replacement equipment and assets.

*Help define competency profiles for members of the maintenance team and provide / organise provision of competency assessment and development programmes as appropriate

*Support the supervisor team with planning, organisation and report writing skills to improve the effectiveness of the supervisor team.

*Lead small works on the plant, modifications or changes in equipment.

*The required skills include good planning, effective communication, written and IT skills and knowledge of petrochemical/process plant.

Skills, Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications

The mechanical maintenance engineer will have experience in industrial process operation & construction, pipeline construction & operation or pumping of fluids through complex pipework. The role is hands on and ideally requires good practical understanding of tank farms, valves, rotating machinery and associated pipework. It involves working in a team of seven (promised of electrical & mechanical engineers and a Permit to work engineer). The candidate will be working in a small team and must have an aptitude for dealing with mechanical works, breakdowns, repairs and fault diagnosis.

*Experience of working with pump systems, valves (preferably double block and bleed valves) and/or pipeline.

*Good verbal and written communication skills.

*Ability to read Piping and Instrumentation diagram. (P&ID)

*Hold a full driving licence.

*Be able to lead and assist the maintenance and engineering team on site for small construction projects and major maintenance activities.

*Self-motivated, able to organise and prioritise their own work.

*Excellent planning skills.

*Minimum of 4+ years' relevant engineering/maintenance experience.


*Experience in working with pressures and volumes in a Hydrant system.

*Process safety applied to fuel storage systems and tank farm operations.

*Control of work and permit to work experience.

*Hold a full HGV licence.

*Have experience or be trained in confined space entry.

*Knowledge of a petrochemical or aviation fuel plants.

*Experience in working with pressures and volumes in a fuel Hydrant, pipeline or pipework system.

*Good IT skills.Relevant technical qualification. Preferred NVQ level 4 or 5.

*Electrical maintenance experience.Condition based monitoring experience
